| | | bird id please anyone hello all ,had to put my sighting on here as not sure how to make my own thread or post or whatever it is
i just been walking in the country next to where i live in durham i heard a strange noise what i did not no after investingating a bird just larger than a black bird flew along the gorse bushes onto small trees further on ,well to describe it it was bright yellow and black and made this incredible shriek of a call its still over there so might get a picture if i can get closer ? could this be a golden oriel ? i am good at knowing my birds but this has me stumped
any ideas jamie |

It's not impossible, but I would say you are a bit too far north for GOs. They are smaller than blackbirds being about Starling sized, and they are only just starting arrive from the continent over the past few days.. I'm not too familiar with the alarm/contact calls of GO, you might try the RSPB website and use their Birds by Name pages to find out about their calls.

any ideas jamie | Green woodpeckers can look yellowish in certain light and they do make a din when they call. Other than that, I'm stumped too.
