Birds Anvil

This picture is of a birds anvil I took in the field as you can see from all the broken snail shells laying about, we sometimes hear tapping but haven't actually seen the bird, we have seen a Great Tit take sunflower seeds from one of the feeders and tap it on a branch to break it open but don't know what other bird does the same

The song thrush is one that uses an anvil to break snail shells.

Thanks Barbara, We do sometimes see one around and they nest in a Beech Hedge near us

Hi witham, you could look out for the thrush now you know its regular feeding ground, and catch it with the camera
