| | | Turtle Doves Heard them, many a time, but yesterday, I had my first really close look at 2 turtle doves, down on a track, feeding. Typically, I didn't have my camera with me as I was going to work on the reserve (admin stuff) so didn't think I'd get a chance to get out.
What lovely looking birds. Who else has had the priviledge of seeing TD's close up?

| | | Re: Turtle Doves I have had close views many times, always without a camera, or they have been in very bad light. These views have mainly been abroad but Lackford Lakes in Suffolk is a place that I have had them fairly close a few times (except this year where I missed them).
I agree, they are good looking birds. I just wish I could see one this year.

John | The last time I remember seeing one was in the car park at Lackford Lakes, about five years ago.

| | | Re: Turtle Doves Saw one last week at Messingham nature reserve Lincolnshire. There is usually a pair there every year. Unfortunately they nearly always perch on some power lines that span pylons. Too far away for a good shot even with the bigma

| | | Re: Turtle Doves I've had excellent views at Stodmarsh in the past, though last time I visited only had 2 sightings. I'll be there next weekend, so hope to see/hear them. |

| | | Re: Turtle Doves Only once have I had a really decent view, at a campsite just north of Horncastle in Lincolnshire, a couple of springs ago.
Each morning I heard one seemingly right above the tent, but everytime I poked my head out, all went quiet and there was nothing to be seen! On the last morning I stuck my head in the hawthorn bush by the tent and one was sat on a nest!
