For the past week or so, every evening I have been scouring a local area of moorland near my village, in a quest for dotterel on passage (one was seen there a couple of springs ago). Surprise, surprise, I haven't found a bean! Imagine my horror today, when a retired friend of mine, on his first visit up there finds two dotterel!
He sent me a gloating text whilst I was 'trapped' at work and then added soon after that they had both flown off, 'high to the east'!
What a nightmare! Of course, I was up there again tonight roaming great stretches of the moor, all to no avail.
