I love birds but...

I HATE house sparrows with a passion, they are a menice in my area, all other birds have moved on and we are left with starlings and sparrows.. the starlings are not to bad although they are like a pack of wolves on the feeder, but what I hate about the sparrows is that infernal CHEEPING that goes all day they sit above my bedroom window and have there chirping fit at 3:45am!!! and goes on all morning.. I swear iam gonna have a nervous breakdown at this rate as this has gone on for months and months, I work 12hours a day (6am-6pm) and my sleep is very important as iam a bus driver, is there anything I can do from keeping these sparrows away from my house, they are also distroying my roof as they force there way in to the roof to nest.. How I long to hear a beautifull blackbird singing in the morning instead of this loud nasty chirping

Re: I love birds but...

Send them all my way. I'll have them. Even these birds that were so abundant everywhere are in trouble. I'm sorry to here that they are keeping you awake. Sleep deprivation is not nice. Perhaps when they finish nesting it may be a good idea to have a look at the roof space and get tiles reset. In the meantime have you thought of use of using those little yellow ear plugs. My daughter used them at uni in her first year as the halls she was in was so noisy! Perhaps when you get some sleep you may look at sparrows in a different light.ww

Re: I love birds but...

Our garden is teeming with sparrows, particularly youngsters and they all come down together, house and tree sparrows and line up on the fence to have a good old chirp! It's rather endearing, but if you don't like it, well I can see how that would be annoying. I love magpies but drew the line at a 3.30am conversation a pair decided to have above our bedroom window!

Do try the earplugs .. I'm a very light sleeper and they work a treat.

Re: I love birds but...

I know how you feel - a few years ago we had a pigeons nest in the wisteria right outside the bedroom window. The cooing drove us mad.

Don't get any sparrows here though.
