Kingfishers in East Surrey?

Hi, I'm a newbie - came here in search of specific advice. I recently fulfilled my one big bird-related ambition (having a robin take food from my hand) and have now got another Big Wish: I want to see a kingfisher! Never seen one except on tv.

I'm situated in Reigate, East Surrey. Where's a good place to look? And are there particularly good times of day or year?

I'm not far from you (Wallington) and have seen them in both Carshalton ponds and the lake in Beddington park.
Have you checked out the pond in Reigate park? Anything is possible.

And a bit further away, a walk round Ardingly reservoir is always worthwhile.

Thanks for the welcome! I've seen cormorants on Reigate pond, but not ever kingfishers. It's been dug up and enlarged and had lots of work around it over the last year, so I no longer go there... that park is a building site. But I'll check out the other places you mentioned!
