Blue Tits - Did they get frozen out?
We set up a new box with camera for our resident tits.. Put it in exactly the same location and aspect as the original... And there was activity.. Two tits started removing the handful of wood shavings that came with the new box..
Great... Then we made a basic (I suppose) error. We put the original cameraless box in another location... Unfortunately not quite upright but almost vertical and same aspect... Tree about 25 yards from original site..
The tits then moved into original house in new location!!
Had to wait till dark remove house and extend it for second camera... Good picture of them working away...
Then on 5 April I had to take a yacht to Gibraltar... On next day wife reported hard frosts in New Forest and Snow!!!
Morning frosts for, I guess, about 4 days... And now not a single blue tit to be seen in our garden!!! Not even on any of the feeders...
Gold finches, Great tits, Dunnocks, etc. all still about, but no Blue tits..
Any ideas?
Wonder if they were put off by the windows in the boxes to allow colours on the tv screen?
