| | | Romantic Meal For Two I've had a couple of pairs of Jackdaws in the garden this week and these two were so cute to watch, they had been canoodleing on the grass before going out to dine I'm sorry about the glare but I took the pic through the living room window forgetting the telly was on and it's the reflection on the window |

| | | Re: Romantic Meal For Two I've been watching 2 jackdaws nest near my house and one of them keeps guard from the tree at the end of my driveway.
He (I assume it's the male?) has a 2 note call, high note first, lower note second which I take to be a warning call as I hear it mostly when there are cats around.
He *sometimes* follows this call up with a VERY melodic bit consisting of maybe 5 or 6 notes and then back to the 2 note call.
I haven't been able to find recordings of these online yet, just the one normal call that you associate with the jackdaw.
Do any of you know what I'm talking about? |

| | | Re: Romantic Meal For Two Aaah, aren't they cute! Very nice photo, witham.
I really like Jackdaws too, and I love the noises they make, In fact, theirs is my favourite birdsong. Possibly because there have always been some around near my parent's house, so it's a noise I grew up with. And yes, Insomniak, I do recognise the sound you describe.
Yesterday I saw a small flock of Jackdaws in a paddock near the river Thames. Most were feeding on the ground, but two were putting on a really impressive mock 'dogfight', one chasing the other, twisting, turning, swooping and all sorts of aerobatics. Great fun to watch! |

Lovely birds, and as you say, great fun to watch. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
