Help in identifying this bird (Audio clip)

Hello all,

After yet another late night attempt at recording some owls (5 days, no luck!! ) i came across these odd sounds.

I couldn't see them, only saw an outline of one bird which looked like a big bird with a large neck.

Unfortunately the clip isn't the best quality but should hopefully give me some answers as to what was flying around my head at 2am There's a few different noises in there, one including a low pitch rising 'modulation' noise.

Download Bird Bird - Supload.com - Free Music Hosting

Thanks all,

Lapwing, and a sheep.

Cheers,

Sounds to me that there is a snipe in there making the low drumming noise. A Lapwing as well

Yes, I heard the distant drumming of a snipe too. Lovely sounds of wild places.

So is the chip-chirrup-chirrup the Lapwing and the very low ghostly chooohw noise a snipe drumming?
It's a great recording.

And is the pip-chewy a Lapwing answering the other one or the same one or something else?
I'm sorry, I have real trouble with bird songs.

Re: Help in identifying this bird (Audio clip)

Thanks for the replies folks - i've never heard birds make those kind of sounds before.

I looked up lapwing and snipe and both look quite small-ish. What could have been the big bird that looked as if it was bouncing from the floor to about 3-4 metres in the air? Yet again, another vague description but hopefully you could shed a bit more light on it for me

That recording was just a small clip of the full 4-5 minutes which i'm currently editing, if anyone fancies it send me your email and i'll pass it over when i'm done.

Cheers again,

Chris

Re: Help in identifying this bird (Audio clip)

hey chris,

I'm having trouble getting hold of an audio recording of a drumming snipe, i require it for a john muir trust presentation. it mystified me for some time whilst living in a highland glen and its arrival coincided with the arrival of spring. if you could send me a sound bite of the drumming i would be very grateful.

ta mucho
