| | | Ollie's Yellowhammers Hi all.
As some of the regulars on here may already know I am in a great area for Yellowhammers. I only have to walk around 500yds from my house to find them and I have a bit of an obsession with photographing these birds.
Sooner than put all the shots I take of these in the main Gallery as I already have quite a few in there I thought I would create this thread to add any shots that I think worthy of showing to you.
I will of course upload any shots that I consider first rate to the main Gallery, as I have done one today.
I will add more shots to this thread as and when the opportunity arises.
Here's three from today. All males as they are just beginning to show well and sing. Unfortunately none singing this morning though.
Hope you like them Roger |

| | | Re: Ollie's Yellowhammers excellent Roger. They're superb looking birds aren't they. The challenge I've always found is getting them without a cluttered background.
I look forward to seeing more from you.

Matt | Thanks Matt. They are I think one of our prettiest native birds.
I'm lucky in the fact that the hedgerow where these tend to be the most has only been cut on one side. A bit difficult to explain but one side of the hedge is obviously much taller than the other and they tend to sit on the highest branches most of the time. This gives me quite a good view and often an uncluttered background.
I think the reason the hedge is done this way is because there is some sort of law or so I am led to believe on the frequency of cutting hedges, they are only allowed to cut one side per year or something like that.
Maybe someone could enlighten us further on this one.

| | | Re: Ollie's Yellowhammers Great shots Ollie - really nice and sharp, I have only ever had one go at photographing these birds, whilst living near Berwick. The day was clear, nice bright sun, birds were singing but seemed to insist they make sure that it looked like a single branch was going through their heads at all times - have never gotten round to any photoshop trickery as yet though. Saw several over easter at Bempton too. |

| | | Re: Ollie's Yellowhammers Very nice indeed, Roger.
Have seen some at long distance but no close-ups yet.
It is nice to heart a man honest about his passion for a bird.
