Goldfinch Question

Dear All - A newbie here (first post).

I've got three goldfinches that regularly arrive together on my feeders - beautiful birds. On my days off, I see them at least 6 times per day (assuming they are the same three). They often appear with a pair of greenfinches.

It seems odd there are three of them. I would have thought they'd be paired off at this stage in spring? Or do they pair and breed later in the year?

And .... for the first time it looks like I've got some blue tits nesting - wonderful I've just ordered some mealworms on the strength.

Hi Chris and welcome to WAB. My bird book says they raise 2 broods May - July. I would have thought they would have paired up by now, but over to the experts out there .

Looks like the 3 goldfinches have been and told their mates. There were 8 perched in a tree outside my garden this morning. 5 came onto the feeders

Blue tits still in and out of nest box - fingers crossed.

Mealworms arrived yesterday. Put them next to my feeders in an open fronted nest box thing I quickly built. Don't think they've been spotted yet.
