What a beautiful bird this is! The song is something else! When you try to see it in the sky you can't find it.

I managed to get these very poor shots yesterday (Saturday
) after walking uo to Knowl Moor).

If you want a good view go to the top Knowl Moor - superb.

Pity they are erecting the windfarm there - should never have been allowed

Yes agree with you on all accounts. They certainly are hard to spot so it's a case of following your ears till you can pinpoint it in the sky. Fantastic melodic song and when they drop down-wow!
Your pictures are good. Mine always look like a spot or just a silhouette.
Windfarm? They'd be breaking the law if they disturb a nest of a ground nesting bird, or any bird!

I know Knowl Moor very well, with my dad's side of the family born in the shadow of it. It was once a great place for upland birds, but a load of bird slicers (wind turbines) are being erected on it as I type, so most will be consigned to the history books now. Just think, Dotterel would once stop off on those uplands almost every early May.

Great photos AJH748. We get lots here in the fields. They fly so high they look like blobs in the sky. Well with my eyesight they do.
