Titchwell Visit

Hi All
Looking for a bit of help from our fellow birders.
I’m off the RSPB reserve at Titchwell at the end of this month; it will be my first visit there.
Can anyone tell me if there are any nice places locally to it that might be worth a visit?
Have been to Cley several times, I think it great there.
Hoping to get a lot of pictures of birds, plants and so on.
Don’t mind paying to get into places,
Any help will be appreciated
Mick

Re: Titchwell Visit

Holkham is usually worth a visit. It is off the same road as Titchwell. Go towards Wells-next-the-Sea and Lady Anne's Road is on your left opposite Holkham Hall. At the bottom of Lady Anne's Road is parking. You will have to pay, was £2.50 last year. Sure there must be other places but because of limited mobility I don't get to them.

Thanks Wildone
Will look into that one, if you recommend it, sounds like you must have had a good time there

Re: Titchwell Visit

Hi Mick

There are tons of places off the A149 to visit........depends how far you want to drive from Titchwell though.

Going west from Titchwell you have Holme NOA..........some good hides there plus the beach/sea and woods.

Coming east again you have Holkham as mentioned.......again you have the beach and pine woods on one side and the Hall on the other side of the road.

Then you have Stiffkey Fen,Salthouse,Blakeney Freshmarsh etc etc.

Plenty to see and do.

Enjoy and please report back on what you saw and where you went as i'm off there myself on the 14/6.

Re: Titchwell Visit

Snettisham is just down the road, but make sure you go for the high tide, at low tide there are just acres of mud and waders in far distance.

Re: Titchwell Visit

Hi Mick

Before giving you sites it may pay you to think about how long you will be birding in the day. If you want to stop in a cafe or eat sandwiches anywhere and what birds you would like to see.

I know loads of sites and itiniaries in Norfolk but the information I have asked off you will give me an idea of what type of route to give you.

After Titchwell do you want to stay on the coast, go inland or a combination of both.

John

Re: Titchwell Visit

Hi
John will be staying in a place call Brancaster Staithe.
When we go birding its for all day, we normally take food and drink with us, but don't mind going to a cafe now and again.
The idea was to stay around the coast and marsh but don't mind going inland if the trip is worth while.

What time do you want to finish birding. I ask because if you want close up views of Nightjar I can give you an excellent site that you need only walk 200 yards from the car to see them. Obviously that means you will still be not that far away from Titchwell when it gets dark. It also allows me to work on an itiniary that ends at this site.

John

Hi Mick

Somehow I missed this thread last time around. To save me typing it all out again here is a link to a thread where I put down the information you need.

My evening

The info you need is in message 15.

Let me know if that is what you need.

John

Re: Titchwell Visit

a quick heads up, I was at titchwell on monday and was treated to the site of an osprey being mobbed by a marsh harrier - unfortunately didnt get a picture but a great site none the less. The warden says that the osprey has been around for about a week or so.
