Re: RSPB Birdwatch Results

Yes the reults make interesting viewing. Certainly gardens seem to have had a bumper season for finches which backs up what many WABers have found with many having Siskins, Brambling + afew with Redpolls.

Interestingly for Greater London (where I am) there are no finches in the top 10 + I've had hardly any in my garden this winter, whereas 1-3 years ago I had 20+ Goldfinches + small numbers of Chaffinch + Greenfinch. Don't know why this is the situation, but hopefully the finches will return.

Re: RSPB Birdwatch Results

Do you know if trichomoniasis has been about in the London area?

I expect it has something to do with the weather/food, for the last three years the winters have been mild, I expect they would come into larger cities if the weather was bad.

At least the Song Thrush is on the up thanks to last years washout Summer

Re: RSPB Birdwatch Results

I went to the Croydon RSPB Garden Birdwatch roadshow last night to hear the local results.
I was very surprised to see the House Sparrow so high up the list as we never see them in the garden.
And yet my feeders are always full of green and goldfinches with resident Dunnocks pecking away underneath.

I hardly ever see greenfinches or goldfinches where I live, but see lots of house sparrows. The results are very interesting: someone had a little egret in their garden!

An aquaintance of mine had the river at the bottom of her garden + she also had Little Egret in her garden as well as goodies like Kingfisher. I was a little green!

Re: RSPB Birdwatch Results

lol, I just had the normal garden birds in my garden. So nearly 400,000 people took part this year!

My dad moved to Gillingham about a week ago and he has a little garden so straight away I have turned it into bird-land with a peanut feeder, fatball feeder and giant seed feeder. He only has one tree/bush in his garden but I counted the amount of sparrows on it yesterday and there was over 20 at one time so even in the heart of Gillingham (an absolute dive ) you can still find a lot of birds, and 20 was way more than the average seen in a garden this year for house sparrows.
