Red Kites

Spent a few hours at Grigrin watching the Red kites being fed.
Took a few photos - these were taken with a Sigma 170-500 hand held ! My arms were dropping off after a while.
It's a lovely sight and well worth a visit.

Re: Red Kites

Lovely set of photos Hank - well done !

A place I'd love to visit - too far for me to travel unfortunately (maybe one day before I'm too old !). Have to content myself with looking at pictures other people have taken .

Re: Red Kites

Wow!! Great pics!!

I was at Gigrin yesterday trying out my new DSLR...sadly my shots were nowhere near as good as yours, and I'm now saving for a decent telephoto lens!! I absolutely love going there though...I hadn't been for a few years, and had never seen as many kites as I did this visit!

I got this one which was half decent, or would have been if I was more experienced and it hadn't been taken with a woefully inadequate Nikon 55-200 VR lens! I have also posted it on the photography part of the forum in my request for lens advice!

Don't be so hard on yourself Nicola! This is a great photo, quite unusual.

Regards, Chris

Re: Red Kites

May I suggest for those who don't or are unable to travel to Wales, there are many many kites to be seen in the Chilterns, which is not far from London.

Although we don't supply an official feeding station, there are still plenty to see in and around the villages and towns of the Chilterns. redkites.net has more info about the Chiltern Kites and suggested places to see them.

Re: Red Kites

That's a cracking shot Nicola - I can imagine there's a few WABers out there who wish they'd managed to get an action shot like that (yes - I'm one of them!).

Well done, and welcome to WAB!

Thea

Re: Red Kites

Hi Hank and Nicola,
Brilliant shots Hank and yours too Nicola, My wife and I will be going down there in the summer, so I hope I can justify the visit with some good pics, but if not I will have to store them in my memory bank and recall them at will.
Duncan

Gigrin is about an hour and a half west of me. This thread, combined with my sighting in the east about ten days ago, makes me think it is time to go back again!

Nicola wrote " I was at Gigrin yesterday trying out my new DSLR".

I've just realised that was the day I went. Now if WAB produced WAB baseball caps or WAB teeshirts etc etc we would have spotted one another.
I've just done a search for 'WAB Badge' and it seems that there was some activity along these lines.
I'm new so sorry if it's old news, but are there any WAB products about ?
