Its a yellow hammer. They are one of the most obliging birds for the photographer and not at all quick to disappear as you approach. Your picture is a typical hedge row sight where I live.

PS almost certainly a female. The males are very yellow at this time of year.

tail looked to short at first but i adjusted the pic a bit and u can see the yellow tint a lot better so def yellowhammer.. i love watchin these .. as mentioned earlier they will sit and let u watch them... james

Hi Denn,
I would say yellow hammer. I quite often see yellow hammers at MNR along side the Manchester ship canal.
