| | | woodpecker fact Did you know that everytime a woodpecker "drums" at a tree it is the equivalent of a human going head first into a brick wall at 70mph!!!  Has anyone evr seen woodpeckers "drumming"? I have a great spotted woodpecker - amazing |

Obviously the repetitions were nowhere near as fast as as a woodpecker but you could hear the loud tapping from many metres away. I assume they must also have some way of stopping their brains being damaged. |

This morning I was in the New Forest and was able to witness this for myself. I managed to get a couple of photos but only good enough for my own records. This was the highlight of my day. |

I didn't post this     How can someone post a reply with my name on it..This has happened before..I have never been in the new forest..Not in about 30 years anyway..

I would have thought even with all the special cushioning in its head banging into a lamp post must smart a bit., at least when they drill in to trees the wood must absorb some of the impact. He seems happy enough though, and it gives a nice metalic ring.
