The recent cold weather and high winds have put me off biking to my usual haunts - indeed, even going by bus to flat locations without much shelter doesn't seem the right thing for me. I must be an ageing southern softie. Like Ollie, but fortunately for different reasons, I have limited myself lately to snapping birds in and from my garden.
These four are of birds in flight; always a challenge and especially in windy conditions where the birds are blown off course.
This first is a long distance mistle (I think) thrush battling against the wind and giving me a chance
The next is of a starling that flew across my bows rather than towards me, which would have been pretty impossible to capture
We have plenty of collared doves who are not popular when they wake up my guv'nor at 4 am on a summer's morning
I am really pleased with this shot. The chaffinch was perched on the roof of a neighbour's garage and was clearly unsettled. I managed to catch him just after he had taken off. Usually, my flight shots in these situations are by chance; but this was deliberate
It's stopped raining, the sun's out and I have finished my coffee; so I think I'll pop out again.
