| | | What bird? I apologise now for the vagueness of this post. But if it results in an answer il still try
Okay, in my travels through the forest for my project we need to ID birds and make a list. There is this one bird that we can hear but cannot find!! It has such a distingtive call. It almost sounds like a frog! So if anyone knows of a bird in Scotland that likes to live in woods but near houses and sounds like a frog then let me know |

If so may be a raven.

| | | Re: What bird? Nope definatly not a raven. I know what they sound like. Its more delicate. Definatly a smaller bird. It sings as well but has a frog part to the song. As i say its a bit vague Thanks for trying though! |

| | Re: What bird? do you have many starlings around, the reason i ask is that they do mimic other birds as part of their song reportoire, and by your description raven was the first bird to come to mind for me too, also the other reason is that i was looking for a curlew i could hear but could not see, and that turned out to be a starling. |

| | | Re: What bird? It's funny you should describe a bird that sounds like a frog, Amylou. Last week I heard something very similar - sounded like a small bird imitating a frog but obviously more high-pitched. This was in a country park in Staffordshire and in a small wood close to marshy land. Tried my best to track it down but failed to do so.
Cheers

| | | Re: What bird? I've got tits in mind (no pun intended). Could it be willow tit (buzzing) or maybe long-tailed tit (chirrupping)? If it is more of a rasping (like a football rattle) it would be mistle thrush.
Can you describe the noise any better? What did its song sound like in relation to other bird songs that you know? |

| | | Re: What bird? I cant describe it any more really. Iv been listening out for so many calls they are all mixed up lol! But im there for the next 5 weeks so il definatly hear out for it again. Il have a quick listen to those you mentioned on line. The RSPB have a good range of calls to listen. Il get back to you if i think its one of them.
I have another query What is that bird that is really really common and i hear it all the time. Its just got 2 notes, high to low about 4 times? Il have a search for it online to see if i can find it myself. |

Just thought would check cos you didn't say you saw the bird per se.

| | | Re: What bird? Lol, nah was definatly a bird. It came from the trees and we saw something flying about in the branches but it was too far away to see. Also the frog part was only part of its call. It wasnt a small bird, as in blue tit small, but it wasnt raven size. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
