| | | Cheerful whistle Hi, when out for my constitutional this morning I was crossing a river where I heard a whistle that went something like this (forgive my attempt at bird phoenetics): day-do dib dib dub – well, it works for me!!! This whistle was repeated several times and brought a smile to my face. Any idea (and I know I'm pushing it) what bird it was? Thanks S. |

As suggested go to RSPB and listen to robin, dunnock wren if there were any ducks around listen to second part of wigeon call, but there are so many birds singing at the moment might be hard to track down

| | | Re: Cheerful whistle Was a a strident whistle? In which case, I would plump for Song Thrush, which has a good loud whistle and likes to repeat each phrase several times. 'day-do dib dib dub' definitely sounds like one of the song thrush's favoured ditties. |

| | | Re: Cheerful whistle When I say it in a cheery tone, it sounds exactly like a singing Chaffinch. A song I always like to hear.

| | | Re: Cheerful whistle Thanks for all your answers so far. There certainly are plenty of thrushes, chaffinches, blackbirds, wrens, ducks (mallards mainly) and robins in the area, but none of the suggested calls match the RSPB sound tracks. Here is a link to a sound file (.wav) where I have tried to recreate the sound: http://www.apicus.co.uk/birdsong.wav
Thanks S. |
