Hello,
Can anyone help - I need to know the total number of bird species in Britain for an article. I found one source that stated it was 280 regular species, but I can't find anywhere verifying this.
Does anybody know or can you direct me to a source?

The BOU - British Ornithologists' Union has all the official lists on their website.

For info - the BOU List 2007 counted 578 species.

Remember the BOU List (currently 578 species in Category A, B and C) includes all accepted species recorded, including many extremely rare vagrants recorded once or twice and others infrequently. The "regular" bird species number is far lower, probably nearer 260.... |
