| | | The Buzzard Fields On my way to college every day, i go past three fields on the Kings Thorn road just past Much Birch. On a number of occasions I have seen buzzards in the fields just sitting there. I have found out over the year that it is a family of three, and one i saw all of them together in the corner. Haven't seen them recently (a bit too cold/dark at quater to 8 in the morning ) but i'm still keeping a look out for them. They are beautiful birds, with a lighter plumage than I usually see; more of a creamy white chest and sides. I will try to get a photo of them at some point, bit it's a bit difficult on a moving bus!
I haven't heard of buzzards sitting on the ground for no apparent reason, has anyone else? They sometimes look like they're sunning themselves. Sarah

| | | Re: The Buzzard Fields Hi Sarah. That sounds like a pretty popular field what with all the Buzzards visiting it. I would assume they are sitting in it looking for worms and insects to eat. To see three I would have thought would be quite unusual unless it is a resident pair with one youngster from last year's brood that hasn't found it's own territory yet. Let us know if you see them again and if you get any photographs

| | | Re: The Buzzard Fields We have had 5 Buzzards killed in a fortnight here in Lincolnshire, 4 shot and 1 trapped, either for 'sport' or perhaps by ignoramuses who believe they are a threat to other wildlife etc but in fact their main source of food is worms, bugs etc |

Sarah | It's quite common to see buzzards sat around in fields like that. Still brilliant though, and you can get quite close when they're like that. Hopefully they'll be back. Buzzards also vary quite a lot in colouration, from cream to dark brown underneath the wings and on th breast. If you're ever in the chilterns area you can also see red kites doing the whole 'ho-hum i'm sitting in a field' thing as well...
