| | Re: Do crows catch fish? Hello Shirl,
I'm a keen birder and fisherman. As a Leisure Angler I get to see lots of bird activity you just do not see from birding. I was fishing a lake today when I saw a carrion crow appear infront of me around 13meters over the water(I know this because it was an area I was fishing with my 13 meter pole earlier until I changed tactic), It slowed down and dipped it's bill in the water and flew off with a small roach (type of coursefish if you don't know). I said to my fishing pal if he had ever seen this before, we both agreed that the fish was probably dead and floating on the service, later the crow came back and appeared to try and land in the water but later it came back in the same fashion, and scooped another small roach out, the fish was certainly alive and clearly moving, crows don't fly that fast so we could see the fish vibrating as small fish do when we catch them! If I only had my camera to hand or video. I'm tempted to go back without rods to film it. The carrion crow landed on a patch of grass each time and devoured it's unusual meal.
Glad I had a witness, Take care,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Do crows catch fish? I have been a keen fisherman for years and have witnesses crows taking dead fish many times of surface. Dead fish float soon after they die for a time and this is when they are picked off. I have seen grey herons doing the hovering thing many times over deep water too as well. |

| | | Re: Do crows catch fish? My resident crows fish in my pond for newts. I've seen one sit on the edge and flick plantlife out of the way to find them in the depths. They also take sloworms from my borders which is amazing to see. Anyone who has picked a fully grown sloworm up will know how strong they are as they thrash around. Very clever and stunningly beautiful animals. Crows not sloworms - although I have a soft spot for those too. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
