Stealing my Birdseed

Like all bird lovers I have a few bird feeders in my garden. One of which I usually supply with Sunflower kernels. Image my surprise when I went to retreive my walking boots from the guarage this morning to find one of the boots was about a quarter full of Sunflower kernels!! A nocteral mouse had been storing his winter larder.

I think I am going to keep my boots inside from now on.

I found my garden gloves filled with peanuts the other day

The next day the end of the finger was eaten away

My sister has a few seed feeders up in the garden and a little mouse has taken up residence in her bird box. It stores seeds inside it and comes out onto the little platform when eating.

I have a few feeders up at work and kept them stocked with sunflower hearts but ive had to stop putting seed out as they are attracting rats.

I've had a woodmouse in my wellingtons storing sunflower hearts. I even have a video of him running in and out of my boots! In the end I bought a new pair of boots and let him keep his store.

About a year ago, my next door neighbour told me that he had found a load of peanuts under the bonnet of his car - which was in his garage

He couldn't work out how they'd got there - I didn't have the heart to tell him. I had enough of a job not looking in the direction of my feeding station, upon which there were loads of peanuts

Great It was worth relating my experience to see tigger's video. I might try this at a future date to see were it's next storage place will be.

I don't know if it will work with mice, but I have read that to stop squirrels raiding your bird table you can mix red hot chilli pepper with your bird food and peanuts, as birds like the taste and it doesn't harm them, but squirrels don't like it, some gardeners even make a solution of chili powder and water to pour round susceptible plants although this will have a limited effect especially if it rains.
