| | | Bird Identifier Hello everyone
I'm hoping all you great bird identifiers can help me out.
I was at the River Crouch in Essex today, and I saw a bird that I have been seeing for quite a long time, but never actually got a glimpse of noticable features.
I did today, however get a glimpse, and this is my description:
Sparrow sized
Big black dot on its breast
Streaked front
Dark brown back
Lighter brown front
Orange Legs
I am looking at the possibility of it being a Pipit, but I am not entirely sure. Can anyone tell me what the bird is?
Thanks in advance

| | | re: Bird Identifier Well the first bird I thought of was a dunnock, but I suppose it really can't be this as they have a grey front. I don't know any UK bird that has the big black dot on its breast, though I'm unfamiliar with pipits so I could be missing one of those that fit the description. Did you note what type of beak it had? This would be very helpful to narrow it down. Anyways, hope you find the bird you're looking for!

| | | re: Bird Identifier I am not entirely sure Dae, but I think that it was short, thin and brown, but not 100% sure on that! |

| | | re: Bird Identifier Exactly where did you see the bird? On the ground, in a tree, wading in the river, on the mud?? What was it doing? Was it alone or in a small flock?
That "big, black dot" is stumping me too at the moment: apart from that, initial guesses would include Tree Sparrow, Skylark, Meadow Pipit or Corn Bunting....
Not a lot of help, yet, I'm afraid. |

| | | re: Bird Identifier The bird was perching on a post, which surrounded a small river. It was by itself. |

| | | re: Bird Identifier Yes I have been in touch with the RSPB, and am waiting a reply. another person and I have come to the conclusion that it is a Meadow Pipit. We are about 98% sure of it. Thanks for your help everyone! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
