Cheers,
Adam | I think there are more out there than people realise. I've seen a pair of Monk Parakeets several times locally though not for a couple of months, but may still be around. There's a colony at Borehamwood/Elstree + a smaller one on Isle of Dogs. This species has established itself in quite a few countries now + common in parts of southern Spain.
A couple of years back a pair of Senegal Parrots were regulars on a peanut feeder in my garden. After a few months one of them disappeared + the other stopped visiting my garden, but 2 years later it's still in the area, often with Ring-necked Parakeets. I used to be able to ID it from its call, but last weekend when I saw it fly over alone it mimicked a Ring-necked Parakeet.
Both Alexandrine Parakeet + Blue-crowned Parrot have been recorded breeding in the wild in England. |

| | | Re: Ring Necket Parakeets It seems like RNPs have reached record numbers in the UK.
No doubt this will re-open the debate on the effect on native species and the need for a cull. Parakeets reach record numbers - Telegraph

| | | Re: Ring Necket Parakeets I live in North Leicestershire and there has been a ring neck living in the village cemetry for several years, making feeding forays to bird feeders in the nearby gardens, however there has, to my knowledge, not been any others reported here, as they are said to be extremely gregarious by nature, this one must lead a very lonely existance.

| | | Re: Ring Necket Parakeets My da gave me copy of the telegraph story from the paper, it says the BTO reckon there are more parakeets than barn owls and kingfishers now. I find them quite endearing but then there not in my back garden - yet! |

| | | Re: Ring Necket Parakeets I'm surprised the report mentioned Willow Tit as being potentially affected as this species is virtually non-existent in the core areas of RNP + certainly doesn't occur in the London area. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
