| | | Re: Bird sighting website?? Members,
All possible problems mentioned above are taken care off on the sites Waarneming.nl , Waarnemingen.be and Observado.org
checking the observations:
All sites have a staff of validators, taxonomists, mappers and experts.
Not one of these people recieve a fee, they are all vollunteers.
see Waarneming.nl
protect vulnerable species:
On these sites we have sevetal possibillities to hide certain observations.
1. All observations of a species are hidden exx:
The Smooth Snake Gladde Slang - Coronella austriaca | Waarneming.nl
2. All observations of a specie are hidden until a certain date within one area. This is most done with rare breeding birds
3. The observer can enter a 'hidden until' date. The details of the observation will be hidden until this date is in the past . exx this observation of a black stork Black Stork - Ciconia nigra 2009-09-05 | Waarneming.nl
How to protect the site against mis-ids ?
1. people who enter an observation of a rare specie get a message that they have to enter proof of the observation like photo`s, a description etc.
2. people who frequently post mis id`s get a warning and will enventually be ip blocked. The erroneous observations will get a tag 'not approved' by the site validators and are not vissible anymore.
3. All users of the site can contact the validators to report a wrong id.
4. the site contains screens where validators can check the users knowledge of the species.

| | | Re: Bird sighting website?? Welcome to the Forum Characeae and U43hvs - I'd certainly recommend all the Sites mentioned both for the quality of the Sites themselves and for the reliability of the identifications - although British reports are still rather thin on the ground I have used the photo Gallery Waarneming.nl
myself many times for sorting out tricky ID's! |

| | | Re: Bird sighting website?? Would twitter be an option? 'contacts' who provide good info would be followed and those who don't deleted from your list.
just a thought. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
