| | | Feeding station set up Hi all
I recently started a thread called From my bedroom window showing some photos of the birds taken through my bedroom window at the feeding station.
See the link From the bedroom window
I have been asked if I could show any photos of the feeding station so here they are below.
These were taken by my wife with her compact camera to give an idea of the view I get.
The first one is a view of the feeders that I get from the bedroom window. The Robin is real by the way if you can spot it. You will also be able to see how I get the green blurred backgrounds to many of the shots.
Another view looking towards the house and the bedroom window above the feeders. The main feeder pole is six foot tall and I have fastened branches above the main metal pole with heavy duty electrical tie wraps. Not pretty but it works. These protrude about three feet above the main pole making the full height around nine foot. This means the birds are roughly 18 foot at a guess from the camera which is mounted on a hide clamp on the bedroom windowsill.
Another general view of the feeders that shows the variety of hanging feeders fat holders etc that I have. A couple of mixed seed feeders. Two Sunflower heart feeders. Two niger feeders and a couple of small hanging tables that the Robins and Sparrows use most.

Thanks again. |

| | | Re: Feeding station set up Is it in your front garden Roger? If it is, it's lovely idea but if we did the same I fear that the feeders would be stolen. However, what a great way of demonstrating your neighbours that the birds need care and perhaps persuading them to do likewise.

Thanks Meadsman. There is surprisingly little spillage from the station and what there is the ground feeders, Robins Dunnocks and Blackbirds keep it pretty clean. We also have a cat that would soon deal with any rats. He actually sits on the downstairs windowsill outside in full view of the birds but I have never once seen him go after any of them and the birds just ignore him. The feeders do sway in high winds but the main pole has a couple of posts driven in by the side of it and again tie wrapped to the main pole and so far it has with stood all the elements

There is actually a public footpath that runs past the feeders. It's that close you could reach out and take the feeders if you wanted.
Fortunately it's a very small village with a pretty tight knit community where I am and we don't suffer from vandalism or anything like that. Since I put this up one of the neighbours in the same block as me has invested in a bird table and feeders so yes it's a good example really.

| | | Re: Feeding station set up Love the idea of the branches on the feeder Roger I have a similar metal feeder and will be out looking for branches/twigs soon.It makes it look more natural and means you can get photos of birds which look in more natural surroundings instead of just on feeders.

| | Re: Feeding station set up That ain't no feeding station ...
... it's an 24/7 restaurant/cafe truck stop, complete with full English breakfast, lunch & evening meal.
Do you have bird boxes with fresh linen, and maid service?
I wonder what I can do with my windowsill ...
Thanks for sharing.
