| | | My broken Blackbird! Will he be ok? Hi,
Was watching the birds playing in the garden this weekend when I noticed this poor guy!
With his broken beak he didn't seem to be able to feed too well. Will he be ok?
Here you can see he has to 'spear' his bread
Wonder what happened to him?
Apologies for the quality of the pics - they were a real rush job through some pretty dirty patio doors!!

| | | Re: My broken Blackbird! Will he be ok? But some soft food out dog or cat food or hard boiled egg yolks, it might just help, while his beak grows back. It looks like he has he has got over the orignal drama it would have bleed quite heavily. Just needs a little help in the way of diet, to stop him starving. He looks a little oval eyed,it might be just the way he was caught on camera.
Regards

| | | Re: My broken Blackbird! Will he be ok? Yes, I'm really not sure what has happened to the poor fella I just can't imagine what would have caused it so far up
I will try the soft food options, thanks. Any food I'm putting out at the moment is getting eaten readily by all sorts of birds so it will be difficult to know if he is benefiting specifically. Unfortunately, I'm at work during the days so I will probably have to wait until the weekend to get to see if he is still doing ok. I didn't realise it would have bled so much - I feel even worse for him now I hope it didn't hurt him too much when he did it. From what I've seen so far though he seems untroubled other than the fact he struggles to get the food down his beak - but he was persistent (as mentioned he is pretty chunky)!
I will keep a close eye out for him this weekend and let you know how he's doing. Thanks for your concern and replies. |

as to what happened to him i would hazard a guess that flying into a patio door or a window could be the cause, or it could be a birth mutation.

| | | Re: My broken Blackbird! Will he be ok? Food at his own height and tilted at and angle somehow might make life a bit easier for him, as I should think that getting food up off the ground would be his major problem here. Poor little chap, you almost feel like getting a dental technician to craft him a top beak.
