| | | Goldcrest or Firecrest? Just a quick ID if possible.
I was out walking today at Teifi marshes and as soon as we parked up this little guy was hopping all over the place a few meters away. I got a few shots presumed Goldcrest as I've seen quite a lot of them this year around these parts.
When i got home i uploaded the pics and decided to have a look at Goldcrest on the RSPB site as i often do for confirmation of anything i see or hear and it wasn't until then that i noticed the white band above the eye on my pictures and not on the RSPB site.
I checked in my Collins and the RSPB site and it shows we don't really get Firecrests in this area.
So, is this a Goldcrest or Firecrest?
Sorry for the bad pictures but id only just got out of the car and only had one boot on and in a hurry to take pics.

| | | Re: Goldcrest or Firecrest? Yep, agree, defo firecrest, a gorgeous pic of a gorgeous bird wow.
I always think of the firecrests' black eye stripe as someone wiping their eye near a fire and leaving charcoal. That's how I used to remember the difference between gold and fire when I started birdwatching.

| | | Re: Goldcrest or Firecrest? Lovely capture, agree its a Firecrest, don't take the distribution maps and writing in books as written in stone, treat them as a guide to the possibility of what can be seen at a particular season in a given area.
Especially with the changing and unusual weather patterns of late
Theres always gonna be the exception to the rule
