Talking DUCK ID?? (cant find it in the book) - HELP!

havn't got images uploaded yet cos i'm on laptop n PC's being fixed, so i'm gonna describe it...

It's approx similar shape & size to a mallard; has black body & beak (no grey), a white 'bib' on breast - like Blue Swedish markings.. thought that was what it was at first, but this has a dark green head too...... (not sure if it's a difference between gender or just age but the size of the white part on its breast varied between certain birds)... Oh and they wer in a group of about 8-10 individuals.

Plz help!

Thanx!

Sounds like mallards crossed with Aylesburys but hard to tell without a pic - that would be my guess anyway!

Does sound like a mallard crossed with a domestic.

Thanks for that site, Tursiops, I have always wanted to know what those white ducks are. Now I know. I never have been good at duck identification.

Re: DUCK ID?? (cant find it in the book) - HELP!

Mallards domestics and crosses can indeed be beautiful

Look at this photo of a young male with just moulted plumage. We had a brood with 2 green ducks male and female in our local park and we kept going back to just look at them! The usual green/purple iridescent mallard color on neck was all over its body. Unfortunately, it disapeared shortly after I took this photo.
has anybody seen another green mallard?
