Bird ID please

Hi,

Is this fluffy little fellow a baby buzzard or just a very pale one? (or something else?)

Thank you

Re: Bird ID please

A pale one. Common Buzzards are extremely variable in colour, though this is palest I've seen.

Rough-legged Buzzards are very pale too with little variation in colour.

Cheers,

Adam

Re: Bird ID please

I am fairly sure this is a Buzzard, a light phase juvenile is my best bet, it is just possible it is a Rough-Legged Buzzard which is much rarer but fairly regular winter visitor (less than half a dozen birds each year I think, mostly in the east of the country). I am no raptor specialist though so if someone else has more knowledge I am ready and willing to learn.

Re: Bird ID please

Pale phase Common Buzzard......

Far to pale for a Rough-legged

Re: Bird ID please

Agree Common Buzzard. I've never seen one this pale in the UK, but quite a few like this in France where they seem more variable than here!

Re: Bird ID please

I would suggest pale common buzzard. Rough-legged buzzard usually has a dark belly.

This is the (now) famous very pale Buzzard regularly seen in the Chilterns.
Well done for seeing it!

Been mistaken for a Gyrfalcon, a Snowy Owl and a Rough legged Buzzard before.

Re: Bird ID please

Had a very pale Buzzard in the county a few years back that was ID'd as a Rough-leg initially, but was very similar to your one.
