| | | Dawn chorus already I went into the garden at just after 7am this morning to top-up some of our bird feeders. It was just breaking light and I was surprised to hear the beginnings of a dawn chorus with at least 8 or 10 birds in full song, including Robin, Blackbird and Wren.
I can't recall hearing this quite so early in the year before and until this morning it's usually been a solitary Robin - has anyone else experienced this?

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already I generally go for a run about 7am and it is surprising how many birds are singing. Sometimes I think it must be due to the street lighting. At the moment I hear robin, blackbird, dunnock and mistlethrush calling.

Jeff | Yes certainly have Jeff. I often finish work at 5:30am in the morning. On Tuesday morning as I walked to the car park at work, which is surrounded by large bushes and well lit I definitely heard a Robin, Song Thrush, Wren and Dunnock as well as several other bits and pieces of song. I was most surprised as it was obviously still dark. However I often hear a Song Thrush in one of the conifers at work singing in the middle of the night in summer. again it's a very well lit spot.

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already I get up at 4.30 and although its an early start i get to hear the dawn chorus every morning. the other morning a song thrush was in full voice and no more than 25 ft away it certainly drowned out the robins and blackbirds. |

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already I'm hearing the same.
I go up the Forest first thing on a weekend & I'm hearing Robins & Wrens (sing nearly all year anyway), Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush, Blackbird, Great Tit, Dunnock & Goldcrest all singing.
I caught a tiny bit of Chaffinch song last weekend & Goshawk are calling too. |

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already The last couple of days have been hearing a Blackbird singing before day break which seems earlier than normal, though less surprised to hear others such as Song + Mistle Thrush, Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Goldcrest + Great Tit. |

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already I was filling feeders at 6.45am at work yesterday ready for the Big Schools' Birdwatch and the whole environment area was alive with birdsong. It was great.
I wonder if there's such a thing as a professional bird feeder filler. I wouldn't mind that job!

| | | Re: Dawn chorus already it does seem strange to hear birds singing before daybreak but often they are tricked by the artificial light sources we control. when my light goes on in my flat at about 6.30am its like a cue for a resident blackbird to break into song ...delightful.
we've all heard a blackbird's song but how many of you have heard him singing one on one to his potential mate, this is a bird song that mozart himself could have composed, now that's something special.
