| | | roosting birds Hi everyone i was just wondering does anyone on here have any birds that roost in their houses or gardens ?....4 yrs ago i first noticed a blue tit whist i was in the garden on a mid summers evening ....it was high up nr the guttering hanging on to a hang tile on the side of my house ....at first i thought it was after insects ...then when the same thing happened a few nights later at the same time 8.15 .....i sat and watched him squeeze under a gap left by a broken tile .....the roost is still used today ...prob not by the same bird i know ....and the roosting time as of today is between 4.15 and 4.30 .depending if any of my cats are in the garden ....and because i have watched him most nights over the past 2 months ..i have noticed he has been joined by 2 more .....one goes in an old sparrows nest which was built 2 yrs ago under a broken corner tile and the other one over the top of my bedroom window again under a hang tile .......the fist 2 allways arrive together in a tree with 3 other blue tits the first 3 fly off all in separate directions and my 2 then take turns to fly over to my tiles ....the one that roosts over my bedroom window appears from a holly tree the other side of the garden ...i adore watching them and try to sit outside with a cup of tea and a blanket ..under an umbrella if necessary ....every evening as i see them dissapear safely under the tiles i get a fuzzy little feeling in my tummy and i never get bored watching them ....and then when i go to bed it makes me smile to think they are all just a few feet away ..on the other side of my wall .....safe and warm .....nature is such a blessing dont you think ? |

| | | Re: roosting birds Hi,
A fair few years ago we had sparrows nests in the attic, unfortunately not any more, not our doing, but they were very noisy.

| | | Re: roosting birds I don't have birds roosting in my loft but I do have a large group of bats that are quite noisy at times but it's good to hear. I get the odd rat now and then but draw the line at them and have considered putting poison down but worried that the bats might take a fancy to it.

| | | Re: roosting birds We have quite a few different birds which roost in our garden as we are lucky enough to have a large garden with a variety of trees, hedges, sheds, etc, There's House Sparrows some who roost under the front eves and you can hear them shuffling and scratching about, especially in the summer when they're nesting, they also get in the evergreens particularly Lleylandii and Cypressus and when I go to shut the chickens up at night I hear them 'chuckling' to each other as I walk past, we have Collared Doves, Blackbirds, Wrens, Pigeons, Finches, Tree Sparrows, Dunnocks, Robins, a couple of Pheasants, there's also a Spotted Woodpecker who comes on the nut feeders most days and we hear it calling but not too sure where it is but it's not too far away |

| | | Re: roosting birds We've got one of those canopies over our front door - it's got a sloping tiled roof and we get sparrows nesting in there (they've managed to find a way in through the bit where the tiles and the structure meet, by taking advantage of a bit of missing weather/animal guard).
I love to watch them come and go. I know they're still there 'cause yesterday morning there was grass and straw all over the ground below the entrance hole - they're obviously having a bit of a spring clean ! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
