There is quite a number of falcons here, Gyr, Peregrine, Merlins. Most have been hand reared and are used in breeding project through artifical insemination, the Peregrine falcon is eating a woodcock. I hunt with falcons through the hunting season.

Colin

Lovely pictures and wow, what a past time. . . Ever since I was a child, I have always wanted to keep and hunt with birds of prey. It would be a dream come true. . . I am very jealous. Keep up the good work.

re: british birds of prey pictures

Thank you all for you're kind comments, yes I feel lucky indeed to be able to share their world. I get a great feeling of achievement from breeding these regal birds. Its strange to watch a falcon known mainly for its ability to kill, rear and care for its young they feed them with patience , and so delicately, Curl up their feet up and keep their talons out of harms way, and walk and move so gingerly around their eggs or chicks, a side of these birds not witnessed by many.
Regards
Colin

Hi Colin, what beautiful pictures of stunning birds. I'm very envious, you're so lucky to be able to get close to these magnificent creatures. Both me and my partner are into BOP and spotting them out and about can sometimes be hard but always rewarding. They are beautiful.

Yes its a big part of my life, I have the odd little helper

As a boy I first bred Green finches, I have always had a deep fasination for birds. We also have an african Grey called cracker, which I hand reared. Her party trick other than talking, is regurgitating a sloopy mixture of seed in my ear when on my shoulder, nice I guess she does not mind sharing her dinner

Sorry to inject a teensy, killjoy note into all the gaiety here...

... but doesn't the word 'wild' appear somewhere in the title of these fora...?

Hi

Yes it does but I asked Colin to post some pics and as you can see from the responses I think its fair to say most people have enjoyed seeing these amazing birds close up, and the young which most of us would never do.

As to wether you think Falconry is ok thats a personal opinion.

Keep the diary coming Colin......unless the administrators say otherwise of course

John

re: british birds of prey pictures

takes me back a bit colin, used to go with a mate of mine and take out his various birds of prey, what an experience, had to laugh one day we took out his new lanner falcon (spelling?) i remember he had an audible device on it to track it, off the glove it went skimmed along the grass, flew along a hedge high into the sky straight over the horizon, needless to say he never seen his very expensive falcon again,

Thats what I thought bred in captivity or not, they are Identical to the wild
falcons, and by the reply's and PM's most enjoyed a close up look at them.
