I had meant to put on the original post that I took this a few fields away from Rutland water and ask for help idetifying it. Unfortunately my computer had a mind of its it own and sent it before I could complete it.

| | | Re: unkown There are quite a few Egyptian Geese along the Thames between here and Reading. They seem to have originated from a wildfowl collection at Pangbourne and seem to be doing well.

Paul | As a Reading man now (well, for a year or two anyway ) Paul, I encounter them all the time these days.
You can even hand feed them if you like, and as you say, they seem to be positively thriving (and breeding).

| | | Re: unkown They've effectively 'gone native' - we seem them all across the East of England nowadays. They may have come from collections, but I think we're several generations into wild populations now.
They nest in trees (which is always an hilarious sight), and they're notoriously early breeders - I don't think it's surprising to see them paired up by the end of Jan, and on a nest in Feb, so keep your eyes open! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
