Many WABers will know of birdbox manufacturers whose boxes have 2 opaque resin windows in them, to let in enough light to get a colour camera to work nicely during periods of good light during daylight hours (with ir at night, or low light), but opaque enough allegedly to "not bother the birds" at all.
I have recently set up one such box, and have visitors most days - we hope, like last year, to have another successful nest of fledglings raised. (Although that was in a standard, windowless box).
Anyone else got one of these boxes?
What does anyone think, really think, regarding these opaque windows?
Do they bother the birds at all?
WOULD they bother them enough to not nest in the box?
Anyone had any real experiance of these boxes?
I cannot recommend the company who sold me this set-up enough.
Their product and customer service is FIRST CLASS.
Just wondered about those windows! Should I darken them with a permanent marker (thus losing some colour image quality), or should I half cover them up?
Hmmmmm....
Our nestbox footage from this year can be seen by clicking my new signature.
Only one video so far, of both birds in the box - recorded yesterday.
Please feel free to watch and see what YOU think about the windows.
NB. I should point out that the video footage may seem VERY bright. Its not quite THAT bright in reality. I've upped the brightness, contrast (and colour a wee bit too) with the editing software.
Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone here had any thoughts/concerns/ideas or experience of any of this, WELL before our two prospecting Blue Tits attempt to possibly start a nest!?
Cheers
Doug
