| | | Wanted to share my delight Today I bought a 2x convertor for my 300mm lens.. I came home took my coat off and made a cuppa.. Obviously i wanted to play with my new toy so put it on to my camera pointed it out the window and spotted a Blackcap ..
Needless to say i was very pleased to have this visitor and even more pleased to get a couple of photos of it.. The pictures are not as good as I would have liked as it was overcast and so I had to use high ISO, large aperture and a slower shutterspeed.
The song thrush from a previous thread also returned today also.
So in all I had a good day and thought I would share it with you all
Here is the photo taken from about 20 metres away through double glazing |

| | | Re: Wanted to share my delight See?...now i know im about to get myself in trouble yet again but i have to speak up....
This is the one part of this site that REALLY gets to me?...the over niceness...over politeness and people too scared to be truthful.
For heavens sake....The picture of the blackcap is NOT a great shot...a lovely shot or a brilliant shot!....You know that.....I know that...Its blurry, out of focus...etc etc....but most importantly in this case THE PHOTOGRAPHER KNOWS IT as he clearly said " The pictures are not as good as I would have liked as it was overcast and so I had to use high ISO, large aperture and a slower shutterspeed"
and
"Here is the photo taken from about 20 metres away through double glazing "
all adding up to a good "record shot" and nothing else....So why then do people praise it like its a great photographic masterpiece?...BE HONEST with people...im not sure of the photographers ability or skills ...his other work may be pro standard...or he may just be a beginner starting out...but....either way...unless people are honest, how are people going to improve and get better.
If a person continuously takes shots of that level and quality but is continuously praised for the brilliant photos they are taking why would they change anything or try and improve?...
And the fact that the poster actually admits and mentioned the shot was "not all that", It confuses me even more why people dont come on and be honest and say...yeah...your right (like i did) as im pretty sure if the photographer really thought that was the best he could get out of his brand new lens converter he would be taking it right back to the shop !
Ok rant over....
Or nearly....Love him to bits like we all do...why the hell dont the BBC cameramen give Johnny Kingdom some filming tips and pointers??? (like a tripod for starters)

| | | Re: Wanted to share my delight No wish to hassle with you Dan, but haven't you ever heard of giving people encouragement.
Sure it's not a great shot, and under the conditions I don't think anyone could have expected better but the fact that the poster Stomperone has bothered to post it to share with us is in my opinion worthy of a comment.
Blackcaps are not common garden birds and that in my opinion is worthy of comment for that reason alone.
