can anyone identify this bird

Hi, can anyone identify this bird I saw in my garden, sadly it flew away shortly after teasing my cat so I didn't have time to photograph it and I have not seen it since, it was about starling size and with a similar shaped head but it was black on the back and white underneath with a long tail, the only bird that comes close is a house martin but the beak and tail were longer , I live in the south so its reasonably warm perhaps its something that has lost its way looking for warmer climes, thanks.

The first thing that came into my head was a Magpie but I think it might be a bit large. How about a Pied Wagtail?

From your description i'd say Pied Wagtail...search in the Gallery see if this is it...

Hi, no its neither of those, bigger than a wagtail and smaller than a magpie, the only other thing that springs to mind is that it may have escaped from an aviary there is one close to my house, I shall keep the camera handy in case it comes back, I hate a mystery !
