WAXWING in Essex.....

Hello all,

Thought i'd spread the good news that today via RBA pager a Waxwing was seen on a hedge from the hide at Holland Havan Central Park, Essex......

First of many hopefully

The're a bit like hen's teeth down south this winter; in fact not huge numbers anywhere in UK so far this winter, though most are in Scotland. A bit surprising given that I've read that Rowan berry crop failed this year in Finland.Maybe more will arrive in the coming weeks?

I have a friend in Lithuania that thought we would get another Waxwing irruption this year but for some reason it hasn't happened.

As aeshna5 has said, the berry crop has failed in Finland so if that's the case then where have they gone.

The numbers south of Scotland have been virtually non existent. Even in Scotland there are hardly any except for a flock of about 60 in Aberdeen and a couple of smaller flocks elsewhere.
