| | | Re: White-tailed Eagle - Hampshire Would love to see one of those! May have a chance locally to me at some point in the future as they are currently investigating the potential for a release program along the Norfolk/Suffolk coast. |

| | Re: White-tailed Eagle - Hampshire i was there today and yesterday, but on the over side of the A303. just before you get to shipton bellinger you turn left onto snoddington road, go over the brow of the hill where you can park on the side of the road under some trees. from there you look south/west and ontop of the hill you can see a mobile phone mast with a red light on top. that is where i have watched the eagle flying around on both days for about 15 mins each time. i got quite close with the thanks of the farmer who said to me on the first day's visit that anyone is welcome onto his land aslong as thay walk round his feilds and not across them. this is a much better spot to see the eagle from as there is a great view down the valley from the hill top where the phone mast is. i also spotted a family of buzzards and two peregrine's. happy eagle spotting!! |

| | | Re: White-tailed Eagle - Hampshire It seems that in general it can normally be seen at the 'official' view point early on for a feed-up on the carcasses before wandering off north along the ridge to SB on the other side of the A303 later on mid-morning-ish.
So far the other raptors seen at the official view point are - Kestrel, Peregrine, Hen Harrier, Buzzard, Red Kite, and Sparrowhawk. Then there's the half-dozen Ravens too.
Cheers,

| | | Re: White-tailed Eagle - Hampshire Is early morning the best time for it? How early we talking here? I am thinking about going on sat or sun. But I live near Eastbourne and as a result have quite a journey so need to sort out the time I need to be there etc. Also is the Great White Egret still about down there? Think I am going to try and get both in the day if I can.
Cheers Jacob |

| | | Re: White-tailed Eagle - Hampshire Hi Jacob.
No idea about the Egret, but the Eagle seems mainly active in the mornings, having a fly about, feeding & then laying up in the afternoon.
Apparantly its usually seen anytime from about 8.30am till 10.30am. When I went it hadn't shown all morning & then popped up just after 11am.
Hope this helps. |
