| | | Nightingale song We were lucky enough to have a nightingale singing in the garden for a single day recently. Sadly, it looks like it was just passing through, but I did manage to get a decent long recording of it's wonderful song, so here's a tiny snippet! http://www.goldswift.co.uk/sound/nightingale sample mono 8000.wav
or: http://www.goldswift.co.uk/sound/nightingale sample mono 8000.mp3
Sorry, the links got chopped up, to save cutting and pasting I've converted it to this: http://tinyurl.com/fg25k |

| | | Re: Nightingale song Wow. That was a lucky recording. Could I hear a cuckoo in the background too? I heard my very first nightingales last Saturday on a guided walk on an RSPB reserve. Wonderful.ww |

| | | Re: Nightingale song Nice one, I heard a Nightingale for the first time ever on monday they are quite scarce in our neck of the woods. They sound like they should be in some exotic country, not here |

I use a Sony minidisc in non-compressed mode, and an 18" parabolic reflector/microphone. I managed to get really close to this one - and yes there's a cuckoo in there too! I've done a tiny bit of noise reduction to this snippet to reduce a slight traffic hum.

Clive | Hi Clive, why don't you put this into our Sound section in the gallery? Mp3 is just fine.. |

Clive | Clive,
Did you buy or make the reflector - I'd like to get one, but the prices I've seen are pretty high
Thanks,

Jerry | Hi Jerry,
I was given two about 15yrs ago by a friend who had bought them on impulse and then never used them! (Jammy - huh!) There are links on the web for making them though - another friend has made one out of glassfibre following these - have a quick google. http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...parabolic+dish
This threw up quite a few ideas including: http://www.netstumbler.org/showthread.php?t=15029 http://freespace.virgin.net/ljmayes....r/parabola.htm

I'll take a look at the gallery too! |
