Great Bustard at Slimbridge

Hey everyone,

Have just been on the WWT website checking out the latest sighting at Slimbridge and a Great Bustard was spotted on 16th.

I cant believe it, i have always wanted to see this bird, i never thought one would be so close to where i live. I will need to get down to Slimbridge this weekend no matter the weather, and i have just got my Lens back from Nikon so will be wrapping up warm and crossing my fingers.

Has anyone been to Slimbridge recently? If so did anyone spot the Great one?

Cheers,

Stephen

Re: Great Bustard at Slimbridge

I was down there on Sunday but didn't see it.

This bird will be one of the releases that have been done on the Salisbury Plains. It isn't a genuine wild bird from the Continent.

Probably got fed up at the sight of all those blokes running around wearing camo. Boy is it for a surprise

Re: Great Bustard at Slimbridge

Yes I was lucky to see it on Saturday flying along the river. As John says it's from the Salisbury Plain release scheme + I believe this individual was one that was on the Somerset Levels last year.

Maybe not truly wild, but still a magnificent bird behaving very much like a wild bird!

Brilliant, must of been great to see a scheme released bird doing so well.
