| | | Thank you - Update after being given advice A while ago when I first found this site I wanted to know how to get birds into my garden... After Following advice of members I am pleased to announce a busy garden.. Nothing really unusual or rare yet - Sparrows, Bluetits, starlings, woodpidgeons , Collared Doves, crows and magpies. (But it is a start) I don't think I shall ever get goldfinch or greenfinch here but I live in hopes and will keep looking out for them as I am fairly close to the edge of the city..
Today I had a Jay out there feeding which I would say was a bit unusual, I have never seen one this far into the city but there is woodland about 1 mile away. Two days ago I spotted a very bright yellow bird sat in the holly tree I did not get a clear look at it and it was gone by the time i had my camera pointing in that direction.. My guess was a budgie or canary
I also had a bird out there which looked a little like a female chaffinch but I havent seen any males around so I took a video of it. I shall try to post it at a later date to get a definate ID. I have to reduce it to get it on the web.. I dont think we can post videos in here so i may have to create a link to it if that is permitted here..
To repeat myself again .. thankyou to all for the advice given >> I'll keep you updated as to any new visitors |

| | | Re: Thank you - Update after being given advice Great to hear that you are getting the birds in. Don't despair in getting Greenfinch or Goldfinch in. Goldfinch are partial to sunflower hearts and niger seed. It is possible your yellow bird was a Yellowhammer unless it was of course an escaped canary.
Keep us posted of any new additions

Paul | So do you get them in the city then?? I thought they were more of a countryside bird. It would be fantastic if I could tempt them in.. |

| | | Re: Thank you - Update after being given advice As food becomes less available thru the winter Finches will move and take feeding oppurtunities wherever it takes them. Yes they do turn up in cities. Have seen them in the middle of Oxford. If theres some greenery (trees etc) around you will get them. If they see other birds feeding in your garden they may well drop in and maybe become regular visitors. Will keep my fingers crossed.
Paul
