| | | Sedge or Reed Warbler ID Hi all.
I realise it's difficult but can anyone say if this is a Sedge or Reed Warbler. The song to me was more like a Sedge and I think the eyestripe is to pronounced for a Reed but I may be wrong. Apologies for the quality I was a long way off and had to crop heavily to get this
Thanks

| | | Re: Sedge or Reed Warbler ID I think you're right Ollie, it's a Sedge. A Reed Warbler is a lot plainer looking than the Sedge. The dark cap also gives it away as a Sedge. Also the call of a Sedge is a lot more erratic than the Reeds. |

| | | Re: Sedge or Reed Warbler ID Its is a Sedge Warbler as Alan said Reed Warblers are a lot plainer looking.
As for the Eye stripe a Reed Warbler only has a very narrow Supercilium and it is only from the beak to the middle of the eye and does not extend beyond the back of the eye.
The Sedge Warbler has a fairly broad Supercilium and it extends further back than the eye.

| | | Re: Sedge or Reed Warbler ID No votes for Reed so Sedge it is, which I am pleased as it proves ny ID skills aren't so bad, Pity it wasn't a bit nearer or better quality for the gallery, especially since I spent a good half hour waiting for it to show.
Thanks everyone
