Short-eared Owls in South Gloucestershire

Hey Everyone,

I have always wanted to see owls, when i was younger i always heard them at my Nans farm but never saw them

Luckily a few months ago i saw a Barn owl on a post early one morning which was brilliant. But i can never seem to find any types to see

BUT i have just got the latest BBC Wildlife Magazine and there is a write up on Short-eared owl!!
And one of the 10 Best places in Britain to see them is Northwick Warth, South Gloucestershire!!! Which is about 10 minutes away from me, i can't believe i didn't know.

Has anyone been there and seen them?
Or know anything about them?
Are they about most of the year?

Your Short-eared Owls have probably not long arrived. They are mainly a winter visitor, so any time now thru to March should be a good time.
I usually go up along the Ridgeway at Bury Down to see our local ones in Dec - Jan time.

I assume they arrived in October from what i have read on a local bird website, they are on the River severn and there has been loads of sightings

Thats great if they stay around til March because my Nikon Lens is in for repair for a while

I will have to go and investigate on the weekend
