| | | Re: Help with ID please Well knock me down with a feather. Seen loads of Fieldfare but this one was on its own on a little island in the middle of a pond chasing all the Blackbirds away, usualy see them in flocks.

Dai | one of those things, sometimes you are unaware of what 'clues' your brain uses to identify a bird. I remember seeing a flock of widgeon flying at some distance low over the sea on a sunny day - this is a bird I have seen lots of but still I totally didn't recognise them and if it wasn't for the chap who was stood next to me I wouldn't have guessed! I realise now it was because of the light, it was so bright and the contrast so strong I could see none of the pink, russets and cinnamon browns that I associate with this species and I had to learn to look for the white on the wing of the males.
