Re: Help with ID

Looks like a strange looking young Robin to me! The yellow colours are a bit odd though!

Re: Help with ID

we thought robin as well but on closer inspection it could be some sort of warbler. we will ask our family and friends and lookup all our books and if we get something more definite we will post back.

Thanks for your thoughts. it is not a Robin I think Juvenile Warbler but not sure which here is another view. There was a pair and they remained in the garden for about a day

Re: Help with ID

we have a collins bird book with a picture of the juvenile and adult willow warbler and your first picture looks like its between the both. so it could be the juvenile losing its bright yellow feathers.

hi mike,
'think you're quite right. At first I could guess it's a juvenile something...
As it got some yellow colour on its wings isn't it simply a "special" Goldfinch?

Re: Help with ID

I'd say its almost certainly a juvenile Warbler, possibly Willow, but it could also be a ChiffChaff.
Difficult to tell really, sorry I can't be more help!

Re: Help with ID

Hi again,
I think it is definitely a Warbler rather than a Chiff Chaff as the main difference between them is the colour of their legs. Willow Warblers are brownish and Chiff Chaffs are black. If you look at the photo on .... http://www.grayimages.co.uk/Chiff%20...2003,04,05.htm
you will see how black the Chiff Chaf legs are. from what I can see the two photos on this thread aren't as dark as those.
Marie.

Many thanks for all your help Marie. I am sure you are right and I will leave it as a Juvenile Willow Warbler in my records.
