| | | Re: Black swan and cygnet While on holiday,in North Devon,we got the train from Barum,to Paignton, terible place,so on the way back,we got off at Dawlish, and walked through a park, with lots of artificil ponds, along the stream. there where all sorts of exotic(ish) ducks, and loads of black swans with cygnets.O.K.,but on the Exe,just north of Dawlish Warren,I noticed a pair of Black Swans, with 3 cygnets,at least the babies were wild birds!
I work in gardens,and i worked for a lovely old couple,who had a 3.5 acre garden,on the Surrey/Hants border.They created this garden out of woodland,keeping 41 mature oaks,and other decidous trees.
They dug out 2 ponds, about 40X40 yards, and 1 30X15.They rescued wildfowl, collecting injured ducks, geese, and eventually a pair of Black Swans, that had been rustled from a a big garden, the rustlers were spotted, but not the swans, tied up in hessian sacks, for 3 days. They were poorly,so their owners didn't want them. The old folks took them in,they were lovely, followed us all around the garden, stood with me, while i worked, till the spring!
Things changed!
They nested in the reeds, and every time anyone went near,he came out, like a rocket, then he flew through the trees, and sat on the neighbours balcony, daring him to come out!
He chased me and the ride on lawnmower, and loved to hit my legs, with his beak.
Sadly,(or thankfully),Although she laid,no cygnets were hatched,but they had to go,and went to a rescue centre,and we were told they just fitted in,bobbo | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
