| | Bird Atlas 2007-2011 If anyone is interested the Fieldwork for the Britain and Ireland atlas started on November 1st. This is going to be an update of the last breeding atlas (1988-1991) and wintering atlas (1981-1984). Results are based on two visits per tetrad (2x2km) in the wintering (one visit Nov/Dec and one Jan/Feb) and breeding season (April/May and June/July). Each visit is either an hour or preferentially two hours (or more if you want). In addition, you can send in casual records from any tetrad as a roving recorder.
Details and how to get involved are here. Bird Atlas home page
It takes a few minutes to register and you can see if tetrads you might be interested in have been allocated yet.
Some data already collected can be seen here. Key Statistics

Take your time - if you stop to count or need to check an id etc you can stop the clock. Also try and pick a route that covers most of the habitat, so that you get a variety of species. I've got details here - if you need to go counting before yours arrives I can always scan it on for you?...though haven't they got info about it online?
Have fun!

| | Re: Bird Atlas 2007-2011 Hi Paul ,
I think my weekly count to BTO garden birdwatch is going into the Atlas,
Each week I send in my counts of the max species seen in the garden and of those that fly over. Last year I tied all my Paper count sheets to-gether and took them over to Tyland Barn to Kent and Medway Biological Research Centre. they were glad to take them in . Would you want them this time?

Duncan | This Atlas is being coordinated by the BTO so all counts etc should still go to your local BTO rep whoever that is in your part of the world.
This is important work, so great if we can get as many folk onboard as possible. It should, at the end give us some idea of what changes there has been in our birdlife distribution since the last atlas.
